World Refugee Day – June 20

Let’s give support to millions of families all over the world who have lost their homes, dear ones because of violence & war.

(Issued by the Srijan Ka Sankalp in public interest).

////////////////////////////

The pains of people who have been forced to leave their homes, countries because of internal and external wars, violence and exploitation and later seek refuge in an alien land are unimaginable. According to the UN Report, more than seven million people have been forced to leave their homelands because of violence, wars, racial and religious exploitations across the world. In the year 2018, about 1.36 lakh people all over the world were made to leave their homes because of various compelling factors. India is no exception to this global refugee problems. In the past 70 years since Independence, the country has seen a fair share of refugee problems with a sizeable number of refugees from neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Tibet making India as their second home. According to the government’s own admission, more than 3 lakh refugees had taken shelter in India by the end of 2014 and in the last five years, their numbers have increased further, even as the Union government, of late, has taken steps to enact the National Citizenship Bill Amendment Act 2016, primarily to identify illegal migrants in the country and ensure their safe returns to their homelands.
As the whole world is observing the World Refugee Day today, it is time, we as a country must be sensitive to this global refugee problems and ensure a safe return of refugees to their homelands, else it would be very difficult for the countries to bear the burden of illegal immigrants.
