`Planting a Tree is much better than wearing a Mask.

Plant Saplings, Save Environment.

(Issued in public interest by Srijan Ka Sankalp)

Growing urbanization, industrialization, vehicular population and air pollution in the country are not only posing a major threat to the country’s flora and fauna, environment but also making peoples’ health, particularly those living in urban areas of the country, susceptible to various airborne and lung diseases. Even as the forest cover in India in the past few years has shown an improvement, the same is not sufficient, given the volume of pollutions in our major and medium cities which have reached an alarming level. According to the World Health Organisation report, 11 out of 12 most polluted cities in the world are located in India. It is high time we woke up to this grave reality and take corrective measures like protecting our flora and fauna, planting trees to make our country’s environment free from pollution. Currently, India’s forest cover is merely 21.54% of its total area and it needs to be increased at least 33% of our total geographical areas.
As the country is observing `Van Mahotsav’ week, let each of us takes a pledge to plant at least 10 saplings during the rainy season as a part of our collective responsibilities towards the environment.
